Don Evans, was Uncle Burens friend and in the tank when Buren was killed. Don Evans wrote the book "The Odyssey of an Iron Knight." He was in the tank when struck by the assumed Panzerfaust weapon and killed Buren. Mr. Evans was captured and held by the Germans for eight days until rescued. He was burned and lost and eye. Burens head was blown off and body mostly burned.
I want to thank John Evans the son of Don Evans for remaining diligent to contact the family. His father Don tried to no avail and went to meet the creator in 2015. I would have loved to have talked to him. John has sent me the book his father wrote "The Odyssey of an Iron Knight" which his father wanted us to have. I am donating a book to our veterans park here in Columbus County to go on display. We need to keep these life experiences going on. Today we have people that won't stand for the national anthem, desicrate the flag and call our country illegitimate. After reading this book and finding out what actual experiences happened it brings out in some cases anger and hate to those that would say and do these things. Too many people have had it too easy and know nothing of what they talk about nor can justify their actions. Those of us that care should bear the burden of allowing these people to live in word and print etched in our minds so we do not forget the sacrifces we have and in some cases abuse. To my mother and aunts that lost their brother this is also dedicated even though all but one has left us. Thanks John for your help and your father's service to this great country.
